Mini Split for a Hot Kitchen Addition or a Kitchen Without Ductwork
Updated September 2026
Kitchen additions and remodels often leave you with a room that cooks you while you cook. Running ductwork from your existing HVAC system is expensive, disruptive, and often impossible. A ductless mini split heat pump delivers targeted cooling and heating without the need for ducts, making it the smart solution for a kitchen that needs its own climate zone.
Mini Split Reef installs ductless mini splits for a flat rate of $2,000 per unit anywhere in our service area. That includes the equipment, labor, line set, standard electrical, refrigerant, testing, cleanup, and even a Home Depot run for touch up paint. No trip fees, no surprise add ons. Property managers, landlords, and multi unit owners receive a volume discount off the $2,000 per unit rate.
Why a Ductless Mini Split Works for a Kitchen
Kitchens generate heat from ovens, stoves, dishwashers, and people. A standard central HVAC system often struggles to keep a kitchen comfortable, especially if the room is an addition or has no ductwork. A ductless mini split is a heat pump that provides powerful cooling through brutal Central Texas summers and handles mild winters without a separate furnace. It mounts on a wall or ceiling, requires only a small hole for the line set, and gives you independent temperature control for just that room.
What the Flat Rate Covers and What It Does Not
Our $2,000 per unit flat rate includes the mini split system, installation labor, line set, standard electrical work (a dedicated circuit within 50 feet of the panel), refrigerant, system testing, cleanup, and a run to Home Depot for touch up paint to match your wall. We do not add trip fees or surprise charges. Honest exceptions are stated upfront, never after: a very long line set (over 50 feet), a panel upgrade that the house already needed, or unusually difficult mounting (e.g., exterior wall made of stone). In those cases we will quote the extra before starting work.

Straight answers
Can I install a mini split in a kitchen that already has a vent hood?
Yes. A mini split does not interfere with a vent hood. It conditions the air in the room, while the vent hood removes smoke and odors. Place the indoor unit away from direct steam or grease splatter for best performance.
Does a mini split heat pump work in winter?
Yes. Mini splits are heat pumps that reverse cycle to provide heat. They handle mild Central Texas winters efficiently. For very cold days (below freezing), the unit still operates but may need to run longer to maintain temperature. No furnace or ductwork is required.
What if my kitchen addition is far from the electrical panel?
Our flat rate includes standard electrical within 50 feet of the panel. If the run is longer, we will quote the additional cost before starting. Panel upgrades are not included in the flat rate, but we will tell you if one is needed before installation.
Do you offer a volume discount for property managers with multiple kitchens?
Yes. Property managers, landlords, and multi unit owners receive a volume discount off the $2,000 per unit rate. Contact us with the number of units you need installed and we will provide the discounted price.
